Fun and Fitness At Thomas Hepburn

Y1 & 2 joined Falla Park and Carr Hill Primary School to work on basic skills with Mr. Davidson and students at Thomas Hepburn. Everyone worked solidly at keeping fit and having fun. The children practised basic skills from throwing and catching to skipping.

Year 4/5 Beech Class visit Segedunum

Year 4/5 Beech Class visited the Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend to explore their Egyptian exhibit. The exhibit is currently on loan from the Hancock Museum, and contains a range of artefacts which helped the pupils to learn more about their topic, the ancient Egyptians.

The children went on a trail to discover more about ancient Egyptian life, culture, religion and belief. They met up with a real mummy, which they thought was a little scary! The mummy had two toes missing, which had accidently been removed years ago during a customs search!

The pupils found some real canopic jars, and were able to compare them with their clay models. They also met with some (pretend) Egyptian visitors who told them more about life in ancient Egyptian times. Did you know that Egyptian people loved to look good, and wore make up and jewellery, as well as wigs!

The children found mummification very interesting, and were keen to explore how it was done!

The visit to Segedunum was great, and the children found out lots. To find out more, take a visit yourself!

The Ancient Egyptians

Year 4/5 have been finding out about the ancient Egyptians.

In design and technology, year 4/5 have been making canopic jars. In ancient times, canopic jars were used to store the organs of a body before it was mummified. The pupils made their jars out of paper and paste, and painted them to decorate. They look just like the real thing!

Dance 1.JPG
PE lessons have been especially musical with the help of Donna from Heworth Grange School.

We have worked really hard on our street dancing. The girls have loved every minute, especially with Donna's brilliant dance moves looking so good and being so fun to do.

But the boys have enjoyed every minute too! They are now freestyling, robot moving, sliding and spinning stars!
