Maths on the Quayside
Year 4/5 took part in a maths trail along Newcastle Quayside this week. The trail began at Guildhall Tourist Information Centre, and was a circular route which included a trip over the Millenium Bridge and a visit into the Sage Gateshead.

The pupils had to look at buildings, architecture and artwork along the route to answer mathematical problems.

They looked at the Baltic Chambers to see how many lions they could count.

They looked at the bus timetable to work out how long various journeys would take.

They even counted how many steps it takes to cross the Millenium and Swing bridges.

There was lots of mathematical thinking going on, and the trail was a really fun way of bringing maths outdoors. We even met a mathematical magician. We all had lots of fun, and can't wat for the next event!

When we got back to schol, we couldn't wait to get stuck into lots of maths problems.
