Harvest Celebrations

Today we all went to Christ Church to take part in our annual Harvest Celebration.

We talked about how Harvest is a time to share.

and also a time when we should think about people less fortunate than ourselves.

We sang Harvest songs and listen to Trevor as he said special prayers for all of us.

Beamish Day Out!

Year 4/5 and Year 5/6 went to Beamish Open Air Museum to find out more about the 'Vile Victorians'.

Our topic this term has been the 'Vile Victorians' and went to Beamish to see how they really lived.
We saw the Dentists Surgery in the Town.

We went in the sweet shop, the co-op grocery store and Barclays bank too.

Then we caught the tram to go to the Colliery.

When we got to the Colliery Village, we went to the Board School and took part in a Victorian lesson!!
The boys and girls had to sit on opposite sides of the classroom, and we had to be very quiet because Miss Bromwich was very strict, just like a real Victorian teacher!

We had to sit with our arms folded and were punished if we spoke (not really, we were just pretending!)

We had a wonderful day at Beamish, and it helped us find out a lot of new information about the 'Vile Victorians'!!

Stories in Saltwell Park

rooney.jpg

Year 4/5 visited Saltwell Park last week for some storytelling sessions.

We listened to two different stories, told by professional storytellers and staff/pupils from Hookergate High School.

We really enjoyed listening to the stories, and watching people walk around the park dressed as their favourite book characters!
After our stories we saw some acrobats and jugglers, who let us join in with them. We dressed up:

We tried juggling and balancing:

Some of us tried cheerleading too:

But we weren't allowed to try fire-eating. We decided to just watch instead!!

We all had an amazing time, and we even got free books for our new school library!
